Sumi Begum

Sumi is a Principal Associate within the Housing Management department at Capsticks. Since April 2019, Sumi has specialised in this area, having previously specialised in Property Litigation. 

She now specialises in Property Disrepair; Anti-Social Behaviour related matters, Environmental Protection Act claims, Access Injunctions; Possession Proceedings and is an experienced advocate advising and assisting social housing providers and local authority clients across the Country. 

Sumi prides herself on providing clients with pragmatic, commercially focused advise in an evolving sector ensuring clients are provided with timely advice and assistance on cases and in ensuring clients achieve practical solutions to often complex and sensitive matters.  

She aims to focus on ensuring clients are best placed to plan and prepare and assess risk in what is an evolving sector and most importantly in ensuring communities across the Country are made safer.

Property Disrepair, Anti-Social Behaviour related matters ranging from Closure Order Applications, Injunctions against Minors and Contempt of Court proceedings, Environmental Protection Act claims, Access Injunctions; Possession proceedings on all grounds often with complex equality act defences and she has experience in advising on Leasehold matters. 

She also regularly provides advocacy for Hearings and has attended Courts across the Country .

Experience

• Acting for a client and making an application to the Court to grant a Civil Restraint Order against a vexatious tenant who continues to issue unmerited claims against their landlord. 
• Dealing with complex Possession matters where the tenant has raised Equality Act defences. 
• Advising on complex Anti-Social Behaviour Possession claims/ Rent claims with Disrepair and Equality Act Counterclaims. 
• Advising on complex disrepair claims with challenging litigants in person. 
• Advising on complaints to the Housing Ombudsman. 
• Advising on complex Succession Claims.
