The First Homes planning guidance – what are the legal and practical implications for RPs?

Join us at our forthcoming webinar on 4 May, where we will be setting out the legal and practical implications of the First Homes planning guidance and the considerations for registered providers (RPs) and local authorities.

Tailored for all housing professionals, our specialist planning team, Sarah Waite (Partner), Suzanne Smith (Partner) and Jennifer Eng (Senior Solicitor) will discuss the following:

  • What are First Homes?
  • What does this mean from a planning policy perspective
  • How will revisions to local planning policy affect RPs?
  • How will First Homes be secured?
  • How will restrictions on title affect development acquisitions?
  • Other impacts

Attendees will be treated to an engaging and lively discussion from our speakers and there will be plenty of opportunity to ask questions at the end of the session.

The First Homes scheme came into effect on 28 June 2021 and is the Government’s new preferred tenure ahead of social rent. The scheme requires a minimum of 25% of all affordable housing units to be First Homes.

While it is clear that the First Homes scheme will have an impact upon registered providers of social housing (RPs), the extent and significance of that impact is yet to become clear. In this insight, we examine the First Homes scheme and set out the issues RPs need to be aware of.
