Rekha Randhawa

Senior Associate

Experience

Rekha joined Capsticks as a Senior Associate in November 2024, following an extensive and varied career in the fields of professional regulation and healthcare law.

Having initially been called to the Bar by the Honourable Society of the Middle Temple in 2007, Rekha commenced her career at Capsticks as a paralegal, conducting regulatory prosecution cases on behalf of the Nursing and Midwifery Council.  She then moved to a leading healthcare firm where she acted primarily on behalf of the Health and Care Professions Council, where her role included investigating cases and acting as a Presenting Officer in professional disciplinary cases.  She also acted on behalf of the Teaching Regulation Agency, General Social Care Council (now Social Work England), General Optical Council, General Dental Council and the Hearing Aid Council.

After cross-qualifying as a Solicitor in 2012, Rekha specialised in representing claimants in clinical negligence cases and inquests at two leading London clinical negligence firms.  She then moved to the Medical Defence Union in 2016, where she represented doctors and dentists facing disciplinary proceedings before the General Medical Council and General Dental Council, claims, and at inquests.  Her work as a solicitor included advocacy at the High Court, the Coroner’s Court and before healthcare regulators.

During a career break, Rekha was appointed by various healthcare colleges in a governance capacity.  She was appointed by the Royal College of Radiologists as an Equivalence Committee Member and by the College of Optometrists as a Lay Advisory Panel and Council Member (a role she still holds).  Rekha is also appointed to the British Psychoanalytic Council as a Hearings Panellist.

Rekha’s last role before re-joining Capsticks was as a Senior Lawyer and Professionals Regulations Manager (Legal) at the General Pharmaceutical Council.

Rekha’s experience of healthcare regulatory law from her representative, governance and adjudicatory roles (the former being for both regulator and Registrant) gives her a unique 360-degree perspective on professional disciplinary proceedings.
