Experience

Louise practised for 6 years at the Criminal Bar. She worked as a hearings lawyer on secondment to the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), before going in-house in 2013. 

Louise joined Capsticks in February 2019, having gained over 6 years’ experience in healthcare regulation. She has worked as a lawyer on all stages of the fitness to practise process from screening, through investigation, to hearing preparation and presentation. She has represented the NMC in a number of High Court appeals and interim order extension applications.

Louise has extensive experience in undertaking risk assessments and has presented many interim order applications before the FtP Committee, including a number of sensitive and high profile cases. She has experience in presenting registration appeals and expertise in fraudulent or incorrect entry cases.

Louise's case history covers the full range of misconduct, lack of competence, conviction and health cases. This includes complex multi-handed cases, dishonesty, drug and alcohol addiction and cases where there was a breach of professional boundaries or allegations of sexual misconduct. Louise successfully managed a case of serious sexual abuse by a nurse on a patient with complex physical disability and impaired speech. This was following a Crown Court acquittal. The nurse’s name was erased from the register.

Louise has a background in healthcare and worked as a chartered physiotherapist at Stoke Mandeville Hospital prior to starting her legal career.
