Experience

Ian is a Partner in the Regulatory team and specialises in regulatory investigations and disciplinary proceedings. 

Expertise

Ian qualified at an international firm, acting for developers and financial institutions in relation to real estate projects and disputes, before joining the Solicitors Regulation Authority as an in-house legal adviser. At the SRA, Ian advised all areas of the organisation on a range of regulatory matters and had responsibility for some of its most high-profile investigations and prosecutions. 

At Capsticks, Ian has advised the SRA on complex prosecutions involving a range of misconduct, including misuse of client money, breaches of the Money Laundering Regulations and improper conduct in litigation. 

Ian is the client account lead for our work for the Teaching Regulation Agency, where he leads a team of solicitors and paralegals in investigating and prosecuting misconduct by teachers and others working in the education sector. He also leads our work in advising clients regulating the built environment. 

In addition to our disciplinary work, Ian provides advice to our regulatory clients and other organisations in the public sector on a range of issues including the development of operational processes, internal and external guidance, and the implementation of applicable caselaw. He also provides advice and support to other legal regulators.

Notable projects

Having conduct of some of the SRA’s largest and most high-profile and complex cases, before the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal and appellate courts.
