Majid Hassan

With over thirty years litigation experience working for insurers and the NHS, Majid heads the medical malpractice insurance team at Capsticks. He acts for Lloyds underwriters, MGAs, brokers and a leading medical defence organisation on claims and associated proceedings. He has worked with a range of clients from leading specialist underwriters to the MDDUS and NHS Resolution.

Majid is best known for his considerable expertise advising doctors, hospitals, and indemnifiers in clinical negligence but also handles clinical trials and product liability claims linked to medical malpractice cases. His experience in inquests and advisory matters means he can give clients a holistic view on their case. He also works with professional sports bodies and medical teams in elite sport on clinical risk management and governance matters. Previous clients include British Athletics, Football Association of Wales, Liverpool Football Club, Manchester Utd and the England & Wales Cricket Board.

Majid is joint head of Capsticks Digital Healthcare team looking at all aspects of digital health for clients in particular the impact of AI on healthcare and the associated liability issues. He regularly lectures and advises on this topic to both NHS and private health providers and indemnifiers.

Notable projects

Majid has lectured at national and international conferences on safety in medicine. He developed the “Capsticks Toolkit” for clients in response to the report into Mid Staffordshire Hospitals NHS Trust by Sir Robert Francis QC. He is also a recognised contributor in several GIRFT and NHS Resolution safety and learning reports on maternity care, orthopaedics, mental health and emergency medicine.
