Experience
Laura has over nine years’ experience conducting investigations and preparing cases for fitness to practise and professional discipline hearings for a variety of healthcare and non-healthcare regulators. She joined Capsticks in 2017 as a paralegal in the Regulatory Team, later completing her training with the firm and qualifying as a solicitor in 2021.
Laura advises on complex cases and supports vulnerable stakeholders. She also supports other lawyers and paralegals to progress cases efficiently and proportionally by providing case direction, assisting to unlock delays and obtain best evidence.
Laura has worked for a range of clients including the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), General Dental Council (GDC), General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC), General Chiropractic Council (GCC), Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS), Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and Teaching Regulation Agency (TRA). She has a broad experience, including complex multi-registrant cases, clinical competency, serious sexual misconduct, criminal convictions, fraud and dishonesty.
Laura completed a secondment at the HCPC in 2019 within their internal fitness to practise investigations team.
Laura is also on the committee of the Association of Disciplinary and Regulatory Lawyers (ARDL). She is responsible for coordinating the Association’s offering to its junior members, including arranging networking events and seminars on current topics in all areas of regulatory and disciplinary law.
Expertise
Laura is particularly skilled at supporting vulnerable witnesses and registrants in sensitive and high profile matters. She also has extensive experience drafting complex allegations, instructing experts and preparing cases for substantive hearing and interim order reviews. Laura regularly advises clients on a range of complex procedural, legal and evidential issues.
