Experience

Neil heads up Capsticks’ Pensions team. He advises on all aspects of pensions law, with a specific focus on public sector pensions, including the NHS Pension Scheme and Local Government Pension Scheme. He acts for central government departments including the DWP and the Department of Health and Social Care, NHS England, HMRC, Local Government, financial institutions, charities, employers and trustees.

Expertise

Neil has experience of all types of pensions-related work, including public sector pension issues, sponsoring employers, general advisory work for trustees, advising on regulatory and governance issues, corporate transactions, pension scheme mergers, and investment and custody agreements. His corporate experience includes dealing with underfunded schemes, allocation of pensions risk on TUPE transfers and transactions, the Pensions Regulator, and advising on contingent assets, guarantees, recovery plans and other scheme funding issues. Neil also has extensive experience in buy-outs, buy-ins, escrow arrangements, and dealing with section 75 issues including withdrawal and apportionment arrangements. He also advises on pension disputes.

Neil is a full member of the Association of Pension Lawyers and has served on its public sector sub-committee since its inception. He undertakes regular training courses for the APL and clients.
