Training contract
Capsticks is committed to providing training of the highest quality and our broad range of practice areas and healthcare clients enables us to give our trainees an opportunity to experience a wide variety of legal work. Our trainees are therefore able to acquire an in-depth knowledge of both the law and healthcare industry, in addition to developing the skills that any good lawyer needs.
Our training contract is designed to give you maximum exposure to the work of the firm and help prepare you for a long and rewarding career with us. We ensure that our trainees’ experience is very much ‘hands on’ and from an early stage they take responsibility for their own caseload and learn how to manage clients. These are two essential skills for lawyers and our trainees get the opportunity to begin developing these from the start of their training rather than having to wait until they qualify.
Across all of our practice areas, we emphasise the importance of learning how to assess a client’s needs, provide a solution to the problem and manage client expectations. We have an open door policy and encourage our trainees to discuss issues with their supervisors so that their experience is shared. We regard feedback as an integral part of your training and trainees receive a formal appraisal at the end of each seat to ensure they are fully aware of how they are performing and progressing.
Remuneration and benefits
Capsticks aims to offer all its employees a competitive remuneration and benefits package and the current starting salary in London for trainee solicitors is £29,000 per annum, rising to £30,000 in the second year. Trainees are also eligible for all the firm’s employee benefits in the normal manner.
Trainees are also offered financial support for both the Graduate Diploma in Law and the Legal Practice Course. This covers the cost of the course fees and a scholarship of, currently, £5,000 per annum if you study in London and £4,000 if you study outside of London.
How to apply
In 2013 we will be offering training contracts to commence in our London, Birmingham and Leeds offices in September 2015. We have 5 available places for a training contract commencing in our London office and 1 available place for a training contract commencing in our Birmingham and Leeds offices respectively. We welcome applications from candidates who are either on course for or have achieved at least a 2.i (or equivalent) in their undergraduate degree. The firm also expects candidates to be able to demonstrate they are committed to a career in healthcare law, as well as being highly driven, but well rounded, team players, with good problem solving and communication skills.
Please note that we encourage all prospective trainee solicitors to participate in our vacation scheme as this is our primary means for selecting our future trainee solicitors.
The deadline for applications for training contracts commencing in 2014 has now passed. We welcome applications for training contracts commencing in 2015 between 01 July 2013 and 09 August 2013. Please note we are only able to respond to candidates we invite for interview and interviews will be held at the respective offices in September.
