Health and social care
Social enterprises, mutuals and charities
The Coalition Government has determined that staff led social enterprises and voluntary and community organisations will play a central role in the future delivery of services to our community. There is a growing policy of encouraging public sector staff to develop social enterprise business and mutuals, in order to provide services back to commissioners.
Capsticks has now been at the forefront of establishing and advising social enterprises for several years. We played a key role in the Department of Health’s ‘Transforming Community Services’ programme (TCS), which saw the transfer of community services from primary care trusts into newly formed organisations, including social enterprises. We are also now in the vanguard of support for local authorities looking to use mutual and social enterprise models to help them achieve better levels of service provision whilst retaining skills and capabilities within the market place.
We have advised on many groundbreaking deals, including the development of Your Healthcare, the first social enterprise to develop out of NHS London and other social enterprises such as Bromley Healthcare, Medway Community and Central Essex Community Services.
If you are considering developing a social enterprise business from within a local authority or health body, or both in an integrated organisation, we would be happy to discuss your plans with you. We can develop a ‘road map’ to externalisation for you, looking at the key legal issues you will need to deal with in order to become operational, and can continue to support and advise you on your social enterprise journey.
