Peter’s employment law practice includes sensitive cases involving disciplinary action against doctors; termination of senior officers’ employment and sex, race and disability discrimination. He appears as an advocate on behalf of NHS bodies in the Employment Tribunal and internal hearings. Peter regularly lectures to human resources staff on employment law issues.
Peter regularly advises health economies on their reconfiguration plans and has supported a number of major consultation exercises as well as acting in several high-profile judicial review cases involving matters such as the closure of hospital wards and departments, and decisions not to fund particular medical treatments.
Significant cases
- Advising on the establishment of the UK’s first Academic Health Science Centre combining Imperial College Scheool of Medicine and the Hammersmith, Charing Cross and St Mary’s Hospitals, ongoing.
- Advising the Department of Health on the implementation of recommendations made by the MMC review body, 2007.
- Chairing the national steering group in respect of the NHS consultants’ “10% rule” class action, 2006.
