The great trade up
Capsticks raises over £4000 for Birmingham Children’s Hospital

Capsticks has raised over £4000 through participating in ‘The Great Trade Up’, a fundraising initiative organised by Birmingham Children’s Hospital (BCH) to fund their new specialist renal unit. The fundraising game was inspired by Kyle MacDonald, a Canadian blogger, who between 2005 and 2006 famously bartered his way from a mere red paperclip to a house!

Starting with a single balloon in March, Capsticks traded items for higher value items with local businesses, finally finishing with a half day workplace massage voucher from ‘Positive Pressure’, a massage and beauty service provider based in Birmingham. Within the three week time limit for the final donation of proceeds to BCH, the voucher cashed in a generous £4000.

Head of the Birmingham office, Gary Hay commented:

“The game was great fun and we’re very pleased with our third place, but what we’re really delighted about is that so much money has been raised for such a worthy cause – the new Renal Unit is going to be a vastly better environment for patients, their families and the staff.”

Capsticks also raised an additional £800 by employing their partners as chefs and waiters to serve all employees lunch in the London office! Along with a donation by the partners, Capsticks achieved third place in the fundraising competition.
