Capsticks publishes 3rd edition of Service Reconfiguration booklet
The NHS continues on a major programme of service
reconfiguration, triggered by the vision contained in the NHS Plan and given
impetus by the work done by Lord Darzi and others. Large economy-wide health
consultations are also becoming more commonly typified by Healthcare for London.
At the same time, the legal framework for patient and public involvement and
consultation in NHS service developments has undergone major changes.
Now in its third edition, Capsticks's booklet, 'Service Reconfiguration,
Consultation & Judicial Review', draws on the experience of its authors who
regularly advise on healthcare reconfigurations and have acted in several high
profile judicial review cases involving the closure of hospitals, departments
and the relocation of services. The booklet is free of charge and aims to:
- outline the legal requirements for patient and public involvement
and consultation in terms of reconfiguration
- describe the process of
judicial review
- highlight steps that can be taken to minimise the risk
of legal challenge
