The Capsticks Diploma in Clinical Risk and Claims Management, now in its 19th year in London, is widely regarded as the definitive qualification for clinical risk managers and claims managers in the healthcare setting.

Following the opening of our newest office in Leeds, we are also running this course in Leeds for the first time this year.

This is an Open University approved course and successful delegates will be awarded an Open University diploma.

The course introduces you to the best practice in risk and claims management, providing the practical skills you need to:

The course builds on Capsticks' experience of dealing with the problems confronted by hospital managers daily and incorporates research that the firm has conducted over many years.

Risk management module

1) Why accidents happen (London - Wednesday 14 September 2011; Leeds - Tuesday 18 October 2011)

A day designed to give an introduction to why accidents happen including root cause analysis, the reporting of patient safety incidents and how this can result in effective risk management.

2) Standards and risks (London - Wednesday 12 October 2011; Leeds - Tuesday 15 November 2011)

A day focusing on the key risk areas outside obstetrics.

3) Risks in maternity care (London - Wednesday 09 November 2011, Leeds - Tuesday 13 December 2011)

Maternity care is responsible for more than half the costs of clinical negligence litigation and most of the very big claims.  The Diploma identifies the more common risks and how to reduce them.  The course helps your Trust to prepare for compliance with the CNST management standards and thus secure substantial discounts from the CNST.

4) Clinical negligence (London - Wednesday 11 January 2012, Leeds - Tuesday 17 January 2012)

An introduction to the key elements of clinical negligence provided by Capsticks lawyers.

5) The litigation process (London - Wednesday 08 February 2012, Leeds - Tuesday 14 February 2012)

Capsticks lawyers will take you through the stages of the litigation process from the first letter from solicitors to eventual settlement/trial.

6) Medico-legal emergencies and consent (London - Wednesday 07 March 2012, Tuesday 13 March 2012 )

A day focusing on often high profile medico-legal emergencies in which important decisions need to be taken very quickly. The day also gives an introduction to the law of consent.
