| The Firm
Capsticks is the leading provider of legal services to the healthcare sector and acts for over 150 healthcare clients, including NHS Trusts and Health Authorities, regulatory bodies, charities and independent healthcare providers. The firm has grown substantially in the last few years and has ambitious plans for further expansion, both in its core market and by promoting its broader capability and expanding private healthcare sector client base. The firm has a total headcount of around 190, including approximately 100 fee earners, and prides itself on being able to offer top quality work, excellent career prospects and a healthy work life balance in a supportive working environment.
The role
The firm has recently restructured its marketing and business development function and has identified the need to appoint a Bids and Proposals Manager to lead, manage and develop the firm’s bids and proposals processes. The role will work very closely with the Director of Marketing and Business Development and individual partners, as well as the 7 other members of the Marketing and Business Development department, and key areas of responsibility will include:
• Managing, leading and developing the entire bids and proposal processes including:
- conducting research for pre-tender meetings;
- working with the proposal teams to develop proposal strategies and propositions;
- project managing the process;
- writing and producing high quality and compelling tender documentation; and
- ensuring presentation teams are rehearsed and prepared.
• Continually reviewing the firm’s processes and collating and analysing feedback (both
internal and external) to ensure they are in line with best practice;
• Developing the firm’s bids database to ensure access to expertise, CVs, boilerplate
text, policy documents etc is readily available;
• Recording and regularly communicating bid activities and outcomes to the firm;
• Ensuring the firm’s bids and proposals processes are adhered to, best practice is
communicated across the firm and training is provided as appropriate;
• Monitoring and analysing the effectiveness of time spent on bids and proposals to
ensure the firm is gaining value for money; and
• Any other duties as reasonably requested by the Director.
The successful candidate is also likely to be involved in some account management and general BD activities.
Candidate specification
Candidates should ideally have:
• A proven track record in this field at managerial level within a professional services
environment;
• A good understanding of the full range of marketing and business development
activities within a progressive firm in the professional services sector;
• Strong communication and presentation skills with the ability to enthuse, engage and
influence at all levels;
• A professional or post graduate marketing qualification;
• A proven track record of successful working relationships with partners, major practice
areas and senior management;
• A proven track record of managing employees effectively and successful team building;
• Project management experience and excellent attention to detail; and
• Experience of dealing effectively with issues associated with change management.
Candidates will also be expected to demonstrate at interview that they are:
• Self motivated, proactive, commercial and innovative in their approach;
• Focused on the delivery of a first class service and able to get hands on when required;
• Robust in their approach, with the ability to win the trust and confidence of senior
colleagues; and
• A team player who is able to manage, lead, motivate and work alongside others.
