Gareth Thomas

Gareth joined Capsticks from the external bar where he practised for five years in criminal and regulatory law. He has appeared before a range of professional regulators and has wider experience on secondment at the Financial Conduct Authority and the Serious Fraud Office.

During a lengthy placement at the Nursing and Midwifery Council, Gareth presented cases alleging dishonesty, sexual misconduct, lack of competence, and cases involving the loss of life.

Gareth combines his work as an advocate with a varied investigatory caseload.  Since joining Capsticks, Gareth has presented cases at the General Pharmaceutical Council and the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal. He is currently working on a number of complex cases for the Solicitors Regulation Authority.

A powerful advocate and a thoughtful adviser, Gareth prides himself on thorough preparation and finding new angles on difficult cases. He has been an accredited CPS prosecutor and has extensive experience of handling vulnerable and expert witnesses.

Before coming to the Bar, Gareth studied Philosophy, Politics and Economics at Oxford University, worked as a speechwriter at the House of Commons, and volunteered for a charity helping migrant domestic workers.
