Ellie has experience of dealing with inquests in both healthcare and prison settings and has been involved in the process from the point of initial contact by the Coroner’s office through to supporting witnesses at hearings.
She has also dealt with data protection issues including consideration of Subject Access Requests and has been involved in CQC matters and withdrawal of treatment cases in the High Court.
Ellie assists in preparing training to clients and has developed a tailored training program to strengthen a departments understanding of the significance and process of Root Cause Analysis and the investigation of incidents within a Trust setting.
Ellie has previously assisted with a number of inquests that have attracted attention in the media and have had potential to have a reputational impact on her clients. She has also been involved in inquests involving multiple witnesses who have required support throughout the inquest process.
Ellie advises on ad hoc data protection issues such as a recent advice on the requirement for consultation when implementing new surveillance systems considering both the legal obligations and the reputational impact of all options.
In addition, Ellie has experience of large-scale Subject Access Requests, including the consideration of what documentation contains the subject’s data and where the balance lies between the obligation to disclose a subject’s data upon request and the obligation to protect third party data, considering DB v General Medical Council .
Ellie has been involved in factual accuracy challenges of CQC reports, working together with colleagues to meet the tight deadlines imposed for challenging CQC reports. Ellie has also been involved in providing training in preparation for CQC inspections.
