James is a partner in our Real Estate team and has over 10 years of experience in the social housing sector. James has experience in development, regeneration and commercial property work, primarily in social housing transactions acting on behalf of Registered Providers. In particular, James has vast experience in stock rationalisations, high value site acquisitions involving golden brick (freehold and leasehold) and turnkey projects, overage and option agreements, regeneration projects, conditional agreements, commercial and residential leases.
James also provides advice on a number of development related issues such as planning matters (including section 106 agreements) and CIL, and advice on VAT and SDLT.
James is ranked in Chambers and Partners as a Notable Practitioner and has a particular focus on low-cost home ownership and stock rationalisation. He is described as "very thorough, diligent and always on top of things."

Acted on behalf of a Registered Provider in relation to their acquisition of the development programme of another Registered Provider (at the direction of the HCA). The project included 10 schemes with a combined value in excess of £40 million.
Advising and acting on behalf of a Registered Provider in relation to its stock rationalisation in Merseyside which at the time was the largest stock rationalisation ever undertaken by a Housing Association.
Acting on behalf of a Registered Provider in relation to a sale of a forum to a local authority for circa £18 million.
