Pro bono clinic
In partnership with South West London Law Centres (“SWLLC”) and the Wimbledon Guild, Capsticks helps to provide a free legal advice service in Wimbledon. Following the closure of the SWLLC clinic in Putney, Capsticks helped facilitate the setting up of a new clinic in Wimbledon. A rota system ensures that two Capsticks advisers attend the session every Tuesday evening. Around 20 Capsticks lawyers take part in the rota. Each week around 10 members of the public receive free advice and support through this project.
SWLLC needs to raise £125,000 each year just to keep its doors open, helping 25,000 poor people in desperate need in South West London. SWLLC provide advice and representation in Housing, Immigration and Asylum, Welfare Benefits, Debt and Employment law – they win over 90% of their cases, keeping families together, preventing homelessness, lifting people out of poverty, tackling discrimination and preventing people being returned to their country of origin to be tortured and killed. Volunteer advisers, including staff from Capsticks, advise people on Housing, Family, Immigration, Employment, Consumer, Small Claims and general contract matters, sometimes solving a client’s problem, but always giving them a better understanding of their options.
